A vented dryer (also called a vented tumble dryer) pulls room air, heats it, tumbling clothes through it, and pushes the warm moist air outside through a dryer vent. It is the most common type in the US and needs an exterior vent line to work.
What Is a Ventless Dryer?
A ventless dryer recirculates and condenses moisture instead of exhausting it outdoors. "Ventless" does not mean no duct at all — a ventless dryer vent kit usually refers to an indoor condensation outlet or lint filter housing, and some still route air to a drain.
Ventless vs. Vented Dryer: The Trade-Offs
Vented dryers dry faster and handle large loads, but require a vent line and can push heat into the laundry room. Ventless dryers install anywhere — no ventless dryer vent needed through the wall — but dry slower, use a bit more electricity, and need filter upkeep.

The "vented vs ventless dryer" question is really about where you can put the machine. If you have exterior wall access, a vented dryer is usually better. In apartments, condos or closet installs with no outside wall, a ventless dryer is the practical answer.

Some vented tumble dryers can be converted to side-vented tumble dryer setups, exhausting out the side rather than the back for tight spaces. A non vented tumble dryer is the same as a ventless condenser model — no outside duct required.
